Sky Vega Racer 2, The Next Generation LTE Smartphone

Sky has now become the first company to introduce the next generation smartphone. Its name is Vega Racer 2, an LTE smartphone that enables the longest calling times currently available, and will be introduced by all 3 wireless telecommunication carriers and lead the competition in the LTE smartphone market.

Sky announced that it has introduced the Vega Racer 2 (model name: IM-A830S/ A830K/ A830L), a premier LTE smartphone with an ‘LTE one-chip’ processor, and the world’s first interactive Korean voice recognition based operation function. The Vega Racer 2 was introduced by all three mobile telecommunication carriers in Korea at the list price of 913,000 won on May 11, 2012.

As Byeong-yeob Park CEO of Pantech said, at the introduction of the new model on May 3, Vega Racer 2 “is the best product in all aspects such as speed, state-of-the-art design, and battery life while reflecting the demand of the customers and market to extend the life force of the phone from the users’ aspect.” The smartphone fully represents the product philosophy of Sky.

Vega Racer 2 is the best LTE smartphone available and lets users enjoy the best speeds currently available without having to worry about running out of battery. In addition to a large capacity battery of 2,020mAh, it features the SnapDragon S4 MSM8960, the industry first ‘LTE one-chip’ processor, to improve power efficiency. Sky’s cutting-edge power saving technology reduces the power consumption during the voice call and music playing as well as automatically adjusting the brightness according to the color during video playing to optimize power efficiency.

Moreover, the Korean voice recognition function enables users to take pictures, make calls, send messages, surf the Internet, and update SNS to maximize fun out of simply using the Vega Racer 2.
“As the introduction of competing models is now known to have been delayed by one month or longer, we expect that the early introduction of the best performing Vega Racer 2 will help Sky to take early leadership in the market,” said Gi-chang Choi, Director of Domestic Marketing Division at Sky.

Consumers are reacting favorably to the TV commercial that emphasizes the voice recognition function of the Vega Racer 2. It was ranked high in the weekly popular CF ranking by TVCF (www.tvcf.co.kr). Netizens indicated their interest with comments like “A smartphone operated by voice command is truly innovative,” and “The commercial is unique probably because the product features are very unique among others”.

In the meantime, Sky plans to hold the ‘Vega Culture Project 3 – Vega Family Rock Festival’ at Jisan Forest Resort on May 26 and May 27 to commemorate introduction of the Vega Racer 2. Anyone can participate in the event by registering at the Sky homepage (www.isky.co.kr) by May 13. They will select 2,000 families (6,000 people on the basis of 3-person families) through a raffle.

The festival is a 12-hour long super concert featuring the performances of 20 or so teams including Seung-hwan Lee, 10cm, and C’est si Bon and is for all the family. It will be an event which maximizes harmony and sympathy between family members through Vega Racer 2 and rock music.
