Samsung Galaxy S III gets a Flipboard update

Galaxy S III Flipboard update

Galaxy S III owners starting up Flipboard this morning will notice a new update coming their way, bringing the social magazine app up to version 1.8.4 beta 1 -- the same beta version that started rolling out to testers a couple of days ago. According to the official list of changes, there isn't much new stuff in this initial update, just a couple of bug fixes. Crashes while editing the table of contents or changing the content cache settings should now be remedied, so that's good news if either of those glitches were giving you trouble.

To grab the latest update, which weighs just 2.5MB, simply fire up Flipboard and it should be pushed out automatically.

Flipboard for Android application posted on XDA

We learned last week that Flipboard for Android was going to be a Galaxy S III exclusive when the device launches later this month. Of course, the development community knew that as soon as someone got their grubby hands on the Galaxy S III it would be posted somewhere for easy download for any device. Turns out, that’s exactly what happened, and the apk for Flipboard has been posted on the xda developers forums.

Those brave enough to install applications from unknown sources can head over to xda and install Flipboard on your device. While we normally don’t promote app “piracy,” Flipboard is a free iOS application and will launch as a free Android application after the exclusivity period exists, and don’t believe that you can pirate something that’s free.

If you do give Flipboard for Android a download, let us know what you think of the application in the comments below.

Flipboard for Android - we go hands-on!

AppId is over the quota

Samsung Galaxy S III

Flipboard is finally coming to Android. Well, sort of. Flipboard is coming to Android on the Galaxy S III. Exclusively on the Galaxy S III, we're told, at least for some amount of time, though Flipboard's website today informs that it'll be available on "Select Android phones" at first, so that could mean more than just the SGSIII.

What's all the fuss about? If you're a fan of Google Currents -- and judging by the more than 321,000 subscribers to Android Central on Google Currents, a few of you are -- you'll also be a fan of Flipboard. The idea is that you take a traditional news feed and turn it into a more visually appealing medium. "Magazine-style" is the phrase we use a lot, and it's a great way to read traditional online stories, online or offline. And Flipboard was one of the first apps to do it really well, and until now it's only been available on iOS devices.

But no more. Flipboard is coming to Android. We don't know exactly when (well, May 29 for those of you in Europe, we suppose), and we don't know how long it'll be SGSIII-only. But if you've been waiting for Flipboard on Android, it's coming. Probably.

We've got a brief hands-on look after the break that'll give you the idea of what's in store.

Flipboard comes to Android via the Galaxy S III, wider launch coming soon

I’m not ashamed to admit that I own an iPad to go along with the 3 Android tablets currently on my desk. There are just several applications available for the iPad that haven’t yet made their way to Android tablets, or (perhaps, worse) as scaled up Android phone applications that are not pleasant to use.

One application I use religiously to consume a multitude of content on the iPad. Flipboard presents a personalized magazine out of information being shared with you on RSS feeds and social networks, and presents it in a photo-centric way. Flipboard integrates with Pocket and Instapaper, applications that allow you to save stories for later consumption.

In short, I’ve been hoping for ages that Flipboard would be coming to Android, and it appears the wait will soon be over. The newly-unveiled Samsung Galaxy S III will have an exclusive Flipboard application for a period of time, and Flipboard will then travel to various Android devices after a few months. You can sign up to be notified of when Flipboard is fully-available for Android by visiting their website.

We’ll bring you the latest from Flipboard for Android as more information is unveiled. Stay tuned!
