T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G Android 4.0 update now available – Amaze 4G update scheduled for May 21

Android 4.0 for the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G is finally here. To initiate the download, press Menu > Settings > About Phone > HTC Software Updates > Check and follow the instructions to download and install the new build. The HTC Sensation 4G’s Android 4.0 update can downloaded over T-Mobile’s 3G/HSPA+ network, but we suggest connecting your phone over Wi-Fi to download the update a little faster.

Additionally, the Android 4.0 update for the T-Mobile HTC Amaze 4G is expected to become available for download beginning May 21. This new bit of information comes directly from T-Mobile’s PR agency this morning and will most likely be reflected on the Amaze 4G support page later today.

As with the other Android 4.0 updates that HTC has been rolling out, users should expect quite a few new features in Ice Cream Sandwich with improvements to multi-tasking, face unlock, new browser capabilities, and access to Android 4.0 applications like Google’s Chrome browser.

The Android 4.0 update for the HTC Sensation is a lot later than what we were originally promised, but we’re sure T-Mobile’s HTC Sensation 4G owners are ecstatic to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update with the new HTC Sense 3.6 UI improvements.

So what are you waiting for? Download the Android 4.0 update for the Sensation 4G and be sure to let us know how the process goes and what you think of all the new features. We’re curious to know if the T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G will receive the same performance improvements we’ve seen on other HTC devices which have been updated to Android 4.0.

HTC Sensation Back in March we let you all know that the CyanogenMod team had set up CM9 source repos for the HTC Sensation (also known as Pyramid) but after that things sort of fell quiet. Here it is now May and we're seeing the first build of CM9 appear for the masses. If you're looking to give it a go, you can head on over to the CyanogenMod download site using the link below but keep in mind, some things may be broken. Coincidentally, all of this is happening now, while we're only a few days out from T-Mobile officially rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich to the device.

Official: T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4.0 update coming May 16

After months of delays and broken promises, T-Mobile has finally made it official! The Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G will be available on May 16 – just two days from now. This new information comes from the HTC Sensation 4G’s support page on T-Mobile’s website, following news from the first week of May which claimed the Android 4.0 update would be available “very soon.

Once Wednesday rolls around, you can manually check for the Android 4.0.3 update on the HTC Sensation 4G. From your home screen, press Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check. T-Mobile is recommending that you have at least a 50% charge on your device to make sure your battery does not deplete during the update process.

To add to the good news, T-Mobile has updated the HTC Amaze 4G support page, stating its Android 4.0 update will be available in the “coming weeks.” We’re not sure how much longer Amaze 4G owners will actually have to wait for their Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we’re hoping T-Mobile makes it available before the end of the month.

Are any of you excited for the official Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G? Did any of you give up and buy a new phone or flash an unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to your Sensation?

Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation and Amaze Android 4.0 update schedule revealed in T-Mobile document

T-Mobile has been silent about its plans to update current phones to Android 4.0, but our friends at TmoNews have managed to get their hands on an internal document which reveals T-Mobile’s current Ice Cream Sandwich update timeline.

According to the document, the Samsung Galaxy S II (which was not listed on Samsung’s Android 4.0 update page) is scheduled to be updated to Android 4.0 on May 14th while the HTC Sensation and Amaze 4G will receive their updates on June 16th. It may be disappointing that T-Mobile customers still have a ways to go before their handsets are updated to the latest version of Android, but having a date to circle on our calendars is better than having no information at all.

We’re still a bit confused about the timing for the HTC Sensation 4G’s Android 4.0 update. The Android 4.0 update for the international version of the phone was pushed out in mid-March and HTC promised the update for the U.S. version of the phone would be delivered before the end of March – but the update never arrived. Last we heard, T-Mobile identified radio issues with the update and had sent it back to HTC to be fixed.

How long are you willing to wait for your Android 4.0 update before throwing in the towel and purchasing a new device?

Confirmed: Android 4.0 coming soon to T-Mobile Amaze 4G, Sensation 4G

T-Mobile has officially confirmed that Android 4.0 will soon make its way to the HTC Amaze 4G and HTC Sensation 4G smartphones. An expected upgrade date was not provided in T-Mobile’s support system, though we expect T-Mobile wouldn’t make an announcement before a fairly imminent launch date.

The announcement comes by way of updated support documents on T-Mobile’s site, suggesting HTC is putting the finishing touches on the Android 4 updates for these two devices, and is nearly ready to submit the final upgrade files to T-Mobile. As you’re likely aware, the update will contain HTC’s Sense UI 3.6, which runs atop the core Android 4.0 platform. Sense has been updated to bring multiple performance and stylistic enhancements to the platform.

The wait will soon be over, T-Mobile HTC faithful, and you’ll soon be seeing the latest and greatest in Android versions hit your devices very soon. We will, of course, keep you appraised as we learn more from T-Mobile and HTC.

HTC Sensation 4G Android 4.0 update delayed

HTC announced a while back that the HTC Sensation 4G would be one of the first phones in their lineup updated to Android 4.0. The update was expected to be released before the end of March. We actually had hope that HTC would follow through on its promise; we saw Android 4.0 updates begin to trickle out to the HTC Sensation in Europe, HTC Velocity in Australia and the HTC Vivid here in the US market. Some of you even got your hopes up when T-Mobile updated its website, indicating that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Amaze 4G would be coming soon.

We’re only one day away from the end of March, and T-Mobile is now speaking up about the update status of the HTC Sensation 4G. According to an unnamed T-Mobile rep, the Android 4.0 update for the HTC Sensation has been delayed. The rep explains how the ROM testing process between HTC and T-Mobile works and indicates that the software update is back in HTC’s hands to fix a few reaming issues with the build (most likely T-Mobile specific application compatibility and radio connectivity issues).

We’re not sure how much longer T-Mobile customers will have to wait for the HTC Sensation 4G’s Android 4.0 update, but we’re glad T-Mobile is being somewhat transparent about the issue.

HTC has delivered a ROM to us however it is still having issues the reason that other sensation types have the update without issue and ours did not come out that way is because every ROM must be adapted to the hardware of the device because we use a different radio than other providers and also have applications such as wifi calling it also has to be compatible with those. What the HTC rep told you is most likely correct because once a ROM is delivered we have 2 weeks to test it and then approve it or send it back they then have 4 weeks to fix the bugs and return it back to us, where we are exactly in that process I do not know but that is how a ROM is delivered to the customer.

The original ROM was not delivered to us in November, we started testing it just recently but I think it has been longer than 2 weeks so at this point HTC most likely has the ball.

You bought a phone and it has been announced that you are getting ICS you have every right to know what’s going on with it and when you can see these awesome features. I did go into a lot of detail about how a ROM gets to the end user (you guys) but that wasn’t to point fingers only so you would have a better understanding of why you don’t have it yet, the bottom line is the Sensation has T-Mobile’s and HTC’s name all over it and both companies want to make you proud to be a Sensation owner so we are working as fast as we can to deliver it but also want to make sure that it stands up to your expectations.T-Mobile Rep

Android 4.0 update for HTC Sensation on Vodafone UK launching today

Android Central

Considering Vodafone UK carried the HTC Sensation exclusively for the first month of its availability, there should be more than a few Vodafone Sensation owners eagerly awaiting the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. That waiting ends today, though, as Voda has announced the availability of the new software upgrade, which also bumps the phone up to version 3.6 of HTC Sense.

Here's what the carrier had to say --

Great news. The testing of the ICS update for HTC Sensation is complete, and we plan to start rolling out the update [today], 29th March.

The update will be rolled out in phases by the Over The Air service, so if yours doesn’t appear right away, you can either wait for it to appear, or go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check now.

Vodafone remains quite about the release date of the ICS update for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. That update is already available on O2 and Three-branded handsets, though bizarrely not on unbranded ones. An earlier statement given by the network says it aims to release ICS for the Galaxy S II "as quickly as possible."

CM9 source code now available for the HTC Sensation

HTC Sensation

If you're rocking the HTC Sensation (a.k.a. the Pyramid for you geekier types), here's a bit of news that should interest you -- the CyanogenMod team has made the "official" CM9 repos for both the Pyramid and the MSM8660 chipset common files available and open to the public. There's no official release candidate for the Sensation just yet, as there are a few kernel bugs the team wants to iron out before releasing an official CM build, but this means that your favorite ROM developer now has access to what many feel is the cream-of-the-crop in third party Android development -- CM sources.

We've seen ICS builds leak for the the Pyramid, and these no doubt helped push along the development. But if you've been waiting for a Sense-free build of Android 4.0 for your Sensation, the end is in sight. Keep an eye on your favorite developer, and get ready to start flashing.

German HTC Sensation XEs apparently starting to get Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC Sensation XE ICS update

Update: Forum reports now indicate that the original HTC Sensation is also getting the ICS update, though for the moment it seems to be limited to Germany and Nordic countries.

Have a German HTC Sensation XE? Looking for your Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update? Tired of us asking questions when you know darn well where this is going?

That's right, boys and girls, it looks like the ICS update is starting to hit the Sensation XE in Germany, along with an update to Sense 3.6. You're not going to get all the features in the new Sense 4, but somehow we think nobody's going to turn this one down.

HTC had promised the update would hit by the end of March. So that we're seeing it drop in Week 2 is pretty promising. Other phones expected to get ICS this month are the HTC Sensation and Sensation 4G, followed by the Sensation XL.

Head into the settings and check for the update now!

Update: Looks like the basic Sensation is getting an update, too!
