Verizon Galaxy S III

There she be, folks! The Verizon Galaxy S III. We knew that Verizon, the last of the four major U.S. carriers to announce availability for the GSIII, had already shipped devices, and we knew that they'd be hitting doorsteps today. But there's nothing like actually seeing the thing unboxed and fired up, and that's just what's happening in our Galaxy S III forums.

If you're looking to go the traditional, terrestrial route, the Verizon Galaxy S III will be available in stores starting July 10.

Only 4 days left before gdgt LIVE hits Chicago – register today!

Back in March we partied with gdgt Live at SXSW and had a blast, but we know a lot of you were not able to make it out to Texas. That’s okay, because the gdgt crew is traveling across the country and they have a bunch more tour dates already lined up. The next gdgt LIVE event takes place in Chicago (#2 city for Android nerds) on Friday, May 11.

If you’ve never heard of gdgt Live, it’s free, all-ages and open to the public. These shows provide a great opportunity to meet people from the companies you love, check out their latest gadgets and hang out with your peers.

For this show they will have new gdgt t-shirts and new gdgt-branded iPhone cases from Speck for the first several hundred folks who join us, so make sure you get there early. (Yo Speck, where’s the Android love?) Of course, they’ll also have a whole bunch of gadgets to win — but only if you show up.

We can’t all make it to the show, but Anthony, Chuck, Sean and I do plan to attend. If you’re coming, too, leave us a comment below and be sure to track us down and say hi while you’re there.

Please tell your friends and help spread the word on all your favorite social sites. The official Twitter hashtag is #gdgtChicago. Head over to the gdgt Live Chicago page for the current list of sponsors.

ASUS Eee Pad Slider SL101 getting its Ice Cream Sandwich update today

Eee Pad Slider

ASUS has announced on Twitter that the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Eee Pad Slider (SL101) is rolling out today for users here in the states. It's going to bump your tablet up to version 9.2.1.21, have all the delicious improvements you expect from Ice Cream Sandwich, and turn your slider into 10.1-inches of awesome.

To see if you have an update waiting, just look in the device settings where you can manually check. And once you get it, you'll want to jump into the forums and share your likes and dislikes -- as well as any issues that sometimes come with a big OTA from one version to another. Enjoy that ICS -- now go install Chrome beta!

A lucky few getting their AT&T HTC One X today, check out that camera!

HTC One X camera sample

A number of folks who pre-ordered the AT&T HTC One X are getting their phones delivered today, and while perusing the forums I came across a thread for camera pictures. I've been playing with the camera on the One S for a few days now, and AC member Pauley (who was kind enough to share some of his shots) and I have come to the same conclusion -- the new HTC camera is amazing. It's one thing to read about it in a review, but forums threads like Pauley's really drive the point home. Take a minute, and have a look.

US Cellular Samsung Galaxy S Aviator

US Cellular today has made available its first 4G LTE smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S Aviator. It's pretty darn close to the Droid Charge we know on Verizon, with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8MP rear camera, and it's running Android 2.3.6.

U.S. Cellular is using King Street Wireless as its LTE provider, and with cities in Iowa, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin currently seeing service. USCC will expand its LTE market the second half of the year to cover select cities in Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia. By the end of 2012, 54 percent of U.S. Cellular customers have LTE.

The Aviator is available today in stores and online for $199 on contract (after $100 rebate).

Stop everything, the One video you need to watch today

“Welcome to HTC One, a phone which was designed with the belief that no one person is the same as everyone else. We believe that one recommendation is a 1000x more powerful than ours, which is why we have always put that one person at the heart of everything we do.”

If you watch one video today, make it HTC’s new ad Welcome to HTC One. These guys are getting pretty good. What do you think of the HTC One launch campaign?

Android 4.0 update for HTC Sensation on Vodafone UK launching today

Android Central

Considering Vodafone UK carried the HTC Sensation exclusively for the first month of its availability, there should be more than a few Vodafone Sensation owners eagerly awaiting the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. That waiting ends today, though, as Voda has announced the availability of the new software upgrade, which also bumps the phone up to version 3.6 of HTC Sense.

Here's what the carrier had to say --

Great news. The testing of the ICS update for HTC Sensation is complete, and we plan to start rolling out the update [today], 29th March.

The update will be rolled out in phases by the Over The Air service, so if yours doesn’t appear right away, you can either wait for it to appear, or go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check now.

Vodafone remains quite about the release date of the ICS update for its version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. That update is already available on O2 and Three-branded handsets, though bizarrely not on unbranded ones. An earlier statement given by the network says it aims to release ICS for the Galaxy S II "as quickly as possible."

[Update x2: Modern Combat 3 On Sale Today] Gameloft Bringing In The New Year With A Bang, All Games Will Be On Sale For $0.99 In The Android Market 12/29 - 1/5

If your new year's resolution is to kill more time playing games on your Android device (that's mine, anyway), then Gameloft is all ready to give you the hookup beginning on December 29th, when all of their games will be dropped down to mere $0.99 in the Market. The one exclusion to this deal is Modern Combat 3 - it will, however, go on sale for one day (though they didn't mention the price).

2011-12-27 15h33_53

Gameloft has some pretty killer games, including titles like Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, Asphalt 6: Adrenaline, N.O.V.A. 2 HD, 9MM HD, Order & Chaos Online, and more.

This deal will begin on Thursday, December 29th and run until January 5th, 2012.

Update 1/2: Modern Combat 3 is now $0.99, but there seems to be a glitch in the Market. If you search for Modern Combat 3, it shows the $0.99 price tag (and allows you to purchase it for that amount). However, once you click on the title, the price is $6.99. The aforementioned problem seems to be all good now. Hit the widget to buy! Thanks, Aki! Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation
