Review: HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE for Verizon Wireless

The HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE continues the tradition of awfully long Android device names, and is the latest entry in the Verizon DROID Incredible series of devices. The DROID Incredible line has been very popular for Verizon, and I on several occasions have recommended one of the Incredible devices to friends and co-workers who [...]]]>

Droid Incredible 4G LTE available from Verizon Wireless today

Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Whether you have been waiting for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE ever since we first went hands on back at CTIA, or the recent teases are what have whet your appetite, it is finally available. Today, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE goes on sale at Verizon Wireless for $149, after $50 mail-in rebate with new two year contract, or $499 off contract. Upgrading to this device will cause you to have to pick one of Verizon's new plans, and you kiss your unlimited data goodbye, but that isn't such a loss for many of us.

Rocking Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense 4.0 on top, and featuring a beautiful 8MP camera, this device is definitely one that you will want to check out for yourself. Will you be heading to your local Verizon store to give this a once over for yourself, and see if it has the potential to be your next device? Let us know in the comments and forums if you are picking one up, and stay tuned for our full review!

Verizon’s DROID Incredible 4G LTE by HTC officially announced

After months of leaks, rumors and dozens of blurry pictures, Verizon has officially unveiled the DROID Incredible by HTC. While we’ve seen quite a few spec variances over the past months, the official handset internals match up with some of the most recent rumors.

Looking at the specs, Verizon’s DROID Incredible 4G LTE is a decent phone. It’s size matches up closely with the HTC One S, while featuring NFC and LTE connectivity like the EVO 4G LTE and AT&T’s HTC One X. Additionally, the DROID Incredible 4G LTE features a removable battery and a microSD expansion slot which will allow users to add an additional 32GB of storage to the device.

It’s hard to say which of HTC’s four devices is better than the other since they all offer features which make them each unique in their own right. The DROID Incredible 4G LTE may have a smaller screen and underclocked processor, but its removable battery and expandable storage options may actually make it a more appealing option to Android enthusiasts and power users.

Verizon’s staying silent on the price, but the press release does mention that the DROID Incredible 4G LTE will be available on its website and in Verizon stores within the coming weeks. We wouldn’t be surprised if Verizon prices the phone at $299, but we feel a fair price would be something between $149 and $179.

How do you think the DROID Incredible 4G LTE stacks up against the HTC One X, One S and EVO 4G LTE?

Motorola Droid X2 updated with security patch, wireless alerts, and bug fixes

Droid X2

Just because it's not the latest hotness on the Android scene isn't a reason to let the Motorola Droid X2 wither and die on the vine, and Verizon has begun pushing out an update to Big Red's first dual-core phone. It's not a big version bump by any means, but there are a few important changes:

 • Verizon Video and VZ Navigator® 3D City are now preloaded.

 • A Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.

 • Purchased ringtones are now able to be saved and set.

 • Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.

 • Shortcut names can be updated and saved.

 • The keyboard Input Auto Error Correction setting defaults to off.

Granted, few of us really missed not having the 3D version of VZ Navigator, but the security patch is good to have, and the wireless alerting system is an important update -- one that could end up saving your bacon. Of course, bug fixes are always welcome. If you haven't received the update notification yet, check for it via your Droid X settings.

Motorola Droid RAZR now available in blue in select stores, online May 17

Motorola Droid RAZR

Verizon this morning officially announced that a blue version of the Motorola Droid RAZR is available in select stores and will be sold online starting May 17. As we noted when we broke the news on Sunday, it's the same RAZR we've come to know and love (and wonder why it's still being sold when the MAXX exists), and it's still running Gingerbread.

Sprint EVO 4G LTE versus the Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Droid Incredible 4G LTE and the EVO 4G LTE

Two of the spring's hottest phones -- side by side, head to head. The Verizon Droid Incredible 4G LTE and the Sprint EVO 4G LTE. Both are the latest entries in their respective iconic lines, and both should serve their carriers well.

But while they're both HTC phones, it's obvious they're from different cuts of the cloth. As we've already written, the EVO 4G LTE is a close cousin to the HTC One X, in specs if not in name. The DInc 4G, meanwhile, is a continuation of the Incredible line. (As I wrote in our forums, it is not Verizon's version of the HTC One S, or the One X, or the One V. It's a completely different phone.)

The EVO is the more svelte of the pair, longer and leaner. The DInc 4G is more stout, with a smaller display and a rubberized, textured removable battery cover. But it still feels pretty good to the touch, thanks to the smaller form factor.

One common thread is HTC Sense 4, which is similar in look and performance across both devices. Both carry Beats audio, and both will be using the latest Qualcomm Krait S4 chip. Where things start to diverge is in the camera department. The EVO, being a derivative of the HTC One line, has the all-important ImageSense (or ImageChip) system. That means an incredibly quick shutter time (0.7 seconds), as opposed to the DInc 4G, which is still fairly fast, but it's obviously not anything you could call "zero-lag" speed. We'll need to test the DInc 4G camera in the wild, too, before passing final judgment, but we're also not expecting images to turn out quite as nice.

We've got a bevy of pics after the break. Check 'em out.

A Brief Overview of Verizon Motorola Droid 4

The Droid series that is presented by Motorola and Verizon to its users has always received good reviews from seasoned users and experts alike. The latest version of the Droid series is the Droid 4 which is still based upon the primary strengths of the whole series i.e. it’s crucial performance backbone and even better craftsmanship.

The Verizon Motorola Droid 4 is available at a highly effective rate of US$199 which puts it ahead of many of its competitors. Here are some specific highlights of the new Droid 4.

Verizon Motorola Droid 4: Hardware

The Verizon Motorola Droid 4 is one of the best QWERTY phones in the market in terms of its hardware. The Droid 4 boasts of a dual core processor for greater performance, ample RAM for any businessman, a huge screen for greater visibility and an unbelievable LTE system. In a nutshell, the Droid 4 is an improvement on the previous Droid variant while maintaining the core functions.

Verizon Motorola Droid 4: LTE network

LTE networks are gradually becoming famous even amongst people who are not very technology savvy. The reason is simply that LTE is the wave of the future. LTE networks are extremely fast even when compared to 3G networks, which mainly means that files can be sent and received at lightening speeds. Verizon was the first to introduce LTE but the rest of the major carriers are also due to launch their own versions soon.

Verizon Motorola Droid 4: Slide out keyboard

If it is a QWERTY phone then it is important for one to consider the quality of its slide out keyboard. The slide out keyboard of the Droid 4 is almost perfect. Every key is well placed with there even being a 5th row for numbers. Furthermore, the layout of the keyboard on the Droid 4 also deserves a mention along with the labeling which is also highly effective.

Motorola Droid 3 getting a sizable update, but not to ICS

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Droid 3

The Motorola Droid 3 has a large system update queued and ready to roll out, but it's just another version of Gingerbread. The 5.7.905.XT862 update checks in about 230 MB, and is chock full of fixes, patches, and enhancements -- all very welcome for most any user. With "only" 512 MB of RAM, we didn't really expect the Droid 3 to ever officially run Ice Cream Sandwich, but there's always that glimmer of hope when we see the system update prompt. What did get fixed and updated? I'm glad you asked.

 • A Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.
 • Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction.
 • Avoid device interruption when accessing an application prior to the storage being fully mounted on the device.
 • Improvements in device stability help avoid device power cycles.
 • When connected to a Bluetooth® headset or HDMI cable, the device will no longer lock up and power cycle.
 • Improvements to the camera’s auto focus will reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of captured imagery.
 • Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.
 • Use a wired headset without the interruption of a high pitched tone.
 • Plus code dialing has been enhanced, improving the experience while traveling.
 • Playback media can be heard while using a Bluetooth headset.
 • Place a call to the appropriate recipient using the contact widget.
 • When moving applications to the SD card, shortcuts to these Apps will remain.
 • After updating the contact database from the Messaging App, the Messaging UI will display the latest contact information.
 • Successfully post and play videos on Facebook.
 • Purchased ringtones are now able to be downloaded, saved and used where appropriate.
 • Contact pictures display properly in Google Voice.
 • VZ Navigator 3D City is now preloaded.
 • Resolved excessive data usages and continuous downloading for VZ Navigator® 3D City downloads.
