Huawei Ascend P1 headed to Vodafone in the UK

Chinese manufacturer Huawei has announced that its super-slim Ascend P1 will be headed to British shores, arriving first on the Vodafone network. Offering a near-stock Android 4.0 user experience in a 7.69mm-thick chassis, there's a lot to like about Huawei's latest mid-to-high-end smartphone, as we explained in our full review last month. It's no slouch when it comes to specs either, with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip running the show, along with 1GB of RAM and an 8MP rear camera.

The version headed to the UK will apparently sport a soft touch back, as opposed to the glossy white chassis found in other markets. Huawei plans to launch through multiple outlets in the UK, though Vodafone UK will be getting it first, and it'll be available for free on Voda contracts starting at £26 per month. No word on SIM-free prices just yet, but we'd expect something around the £300 mark based on pre-order prices at independent retailers.

Leaked Samsung device possibly headed to Sprint

Here we see an image of what is claimed to be the Samsung SPH-L300 which, based on its product code, appears to be destined for Sprint in the near future and the folks over at BriefMobile got the first look at this rumored device.  If it hadn't already struck you as looking familiar with it's big silver chin, the HTC Nexus One comes to mind for us but the internals are a definite departure from that original Nexus phone.

Rumored to sport a Qualcomm MSM8960 processor (the Snapdragon S4 chip) which is the same unit as in the LTE enabled HTC One X and Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE, this phone should pack quite the punch should it come to fruition.  Other features and specs this device is reported to have include 1 GB of RAM along with 4 GB of ROM, 4G LTE, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0 all underneath Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.  However, the display resolution is quite disappointing at only 480x800.  With all that hardware inside, we'd hope to see a 720p resolution display or at least a qHD display, but keep in mind this is still an unconfirmed device and that means things are subject to change.  We'll bring you more info on this as it rolls in.

Android 4.0.4 headed to AOSP

Google's Jean-Baptiste Queru has just given word that Android 4.0.4 is headed to the Android Open-Source Project Bat Cave. (OK, it's more like a virtual repository, but we kind of picture a Bat Cave.) It's said to be an incremental update with "a few hundred changes over Android 4.0.3." That's all great news for you fans of the open-source side of Android (which certainly includes us, too).

And now's as good a time as any to remind folks that pushing the code to AOSP really doesn't tell us when carriers might start to push it out. A lot more goes into that that's outside the scope of AOSP, a fact that JBQ eloquently explains thusly:

I do not know the schedule for deployment to consumer devices, especially in situations that involve additional per-operator customizations done by the device manufacturers and/or in situations that require operator approval prior to deployment.

Sounds good. Look for Android 4.0.4 to more officially hit your favorite AOSP-based ROMs soonish.

HTC PJ53100 appears at the FCC, looks to be headed for Verizon

There has been more then a few HTC devices floating around out there for the past few months, most of which have now been uncovered but one lingering about at the FCC is the HTC PJ53100. The FCC shares the fact this one has Verizon LTE bands on board and not much else so we're left to wonder if this is the unannounced device that popped up a few days ago referred to as the Droid Incredible HD aka Droid Incredible 4G. It's certainly not a lot to go on, but we'll be keeping a look out for further details and once we know -- you'll know.
