This is BlackBerry 10, eh?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

We know it's still pretty early for the life of BlackBerry 10 devices, but we're also not really all that worried about RIM stealing away Android's market share anytime soon. Any of you thinking of jumping ship yet?

Keep up with all of today's BB10 announcements at CrackBerry

On this new keyboard BlackBerry 10

BB10 keyboard

If you ' re interested in smartphone technology, you ' ve surely been read FMR check all the World of BlackBerry cover. He ' s OK, we ' ve been check, too. The people there are killing with the coverage. What seems to have impressed people the most is the new keyboard on the screen we ' re see in 10 BlackBerry devices. It has impressive text prediction, uses gestures and is a step in the right direction from the rim ' previous keyboard options software s. Surepress. ** shudder **.

Well, it should look, as well as look quite familiar - we ' re some we ' ve seen before. I ' ll, go right out and say. RIM uses SwiftKey technology in their new keyboard, if not in the physical layout, then at least in the prediction engine. Test our scientific but evidence and yesterday ' s video confirms our suspicion. But it ' s a good thing. All software keyboards out there, we think that swiftkey would be the one to use if a selection. Attach it deep into the OS, and we imagine England fellows can work magic with it. Hit the break and watch for yourself. And don't forget to keep an eye on CrackBerry for all there is to know about the BlackBerry World 2012.

BlackBerry Messenger once again purportedly caught running on Android

BBM on Anddroid

Ever have that feeling of deja Déjà vu? It's happening right now for me with some new images having shown up of what is purported to be BlackBerry Messenger on Android. We've seen such things in the past of course and still nothing ever came out of it. True, RIM is branching off into other OSes these days having launched BlackBerry Mobile Fusion for Android and iOS. But BlackBerry Messenger on Android and iOS?

So many applications already exist for cross-platform chat. What could BlackBerry Messenger on Android even bring to the table? Even if this is some part of the BlackBerry Mobile Fusion integration happening here it just doesn't even seem to matter anymore. Not to mention the fact RIM squashed the idea a while back anyway.

Android Developers - Have you considered porting your application to the BlackBerry PlayBook?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Android Central

Before you get all bent out of shape about us talking about the BlackBerry PlayBook, keep in mind that after the recent update to BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, the PlayBook can now run Android applications. The update brought along an Android App Player which allowed Android apps to be repackaged, and submitted to App World for public downloading. For a while RIM even ran a promotion offering free BlackBerry PlayBook's to Android developers who ported their applications and submitted them to App World.

Owning a BlackBerry PlayBook I know that a few developers did take the opportunity to put their applications in App World, but not nearly as many as one would have expected. The process was really easy from RIM, they made it so your APK file could be easily repackaged into a BAR file which is read on the PlayBook. They weren't asking developers to rewrite their applications, or make huge changes, and still developers didn't jump all over it.

Personally I was left wondering why more big name applications didn't make their way over to the BlackBerry PlayBook. With a rather simple process, a free PlayBook, and an added audience of over one million users, it becomes even more alarming. So, if you are an Android developer we would love to know about your decision. Whether you have already ported, are still considering, or decided against it completely be sure to let us know how you reached your decision.

RIM Introduces the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet

Research In Motion (RIM) today introduced the BlackBerry® Mini Keyboard™, a new accessory for the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet.

The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is ultra portable and comes complete with a stylish convertible case that doubles as a stand for the tablet. In addition to a full QWERTY keyboard, it offers an integrated touchpad that allows users to navigate and control the BlackBerry PlayBook as easily as using the touch screen on the tablet itself. When the keyboard is active, the PlayBook tablet’s virtual keyboard remains hidden, freeing up 100% of the display for the task at hand.

“Whether you’re typing email, creating documents, surfing the web or using other apps, the BlackBerry Mini Keyboard and its integrated carrying case is an ideal accessory,” said James Poulton, Director, Advanced Accessories.

  • Powerful Multi-touch Control - The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard comes equipped with a touchpad that supports BlackBerry PlayBook gestures. The touchpad also offers additional gestures similar to the standard mouse and touchpad controls on a laptop, including a single tap to simulate a mouse click, a two finger tap to right-click, and a two-finger up or down swipe to scroll vertically.
  • Ultimate Portability - The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is ultra-portable and lightweight, measuring less than 6mm thick.
  • Security - The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard connects to your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet via Bluetooth®, and features 128-bit encryption to keep the data passed between keyboard and tablet secure.
  • Powered and Ready When You Need It - The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard conveniently uses the micro-USB charger that comes with the BlackBerry PlayBook (one less charger to carry), and the keyboard battery lasts up to 30 days on a full charge.
  • Third Party App Support - The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is a great productivity enhancer. It works with the new BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 Messages, Contacts and Calendar apps as well as Documents To Go, and provides an optimal user experience for third party apps such as Citrix Receiver, which allows users to remotely access their Windows desktop and apps from the tablet.

Availability
The BlackBerry Mini Keyboard is now available for pre-order internationally at www.shopblackberry.com for US$119.99. In Canada, it is also available for pre-order exclusively at The Source - www.thesource.ca.

Third-party store uploading Android apps to BlackBerry App World without developers permission?

Android Central

The long awaited OS 2.0 update for the BlackBerry Playbook brought with it a whole host of opportunities for new apps. Now that repackaged Android applications are compatible with the PlayBook, and being accepted into BlackBerry App World, some well known names are starting to appear in the listings.

One such name is Dolphin Browser HD. A highly respected Android replacement browser appearing on the BlackBerry Playbook. Impressive. Despite being a phone browser, Dolphin is absolutely superb on the PlayBook and many already prefer it to the stock browser. Quickly -- although not surprisingly -- it has become one of the top 25 free apps in the App World catalogue.

Everything is rosy then yes? Well, no, not quite. The submission to App World wasn't made by MoboTap, the developers of Dolphin. The submission was made by Handster, a third party store owned by Opera. Someone else doing the work on the behalf of the developers -- a win surely? Turns out MoboTap were blissfully unaware that Handster had repackaged and submitted Dolphin to the App World for approval. Handster had already put out a statement prior to the OS 2.0 launch that they were to be uploading apps on behalf of developers.

A spokesman for MoboTap told Engadget that; "We do not condone Handster submitting our Dolphin Browser app to BlackBerry's App World for us and are currently working to take it down and assure Handster will not submit our app for us again. We will assess developing for BlackBerry when the time is right."

Even though Dolphin is a free application in the Android Market, the question still remains over why Handster are submitting an application to BlackBerry App World without permission. A quick search finds a pretty big selection of apps that Handster have submitted -- albeit a lot of them aren't that good -- including paid applications.

In any case, it seems that MoboTap are doing everything they can to remove Dolphin Browser HD from App World. Questions have been raised, but more importantly we're hoping that there aren't any Android developers being taken advantage of.

Can TiKL Work Between an Android & a BlackBerry Phone?

If your phone does not include push-to-talk functionality as a hardware feature, you can download free apps like TiKL to add this feature if you have a smartphone such as an iPhone or Android. While this service does work over carriers and phone types, it does not work between Android phones and BlackBerry devices because there is no BlackBerry version available.

TiKL is a free app available for smart devices such as Android phones that allows your phone to function like a walkie talkie with push-to-talk technology. The application adds a button to contacts in your phone list or Facebook friends which can initiate one-on-one or group voice sessions. You can also use TiKL for chat or text messaging sessions with your contacts.

While TiKL is compatible with a variety of Android devices and the iPhone, there is no version available for BlackBerry phones, despite the fact that BlackBerry devices are capable of using apps. Therefore, anyone in your network who uses a BlackBerry will be excluded from conversations using TiKL. However, if you're using Android or an iOS device, you can use TiKL across devices and carriers.

While TiKL does not work between Android and BlackBerry devices, you may consider the app Loudtalks. Loudtalks is compatible with the BlackBerry OS as well as Android and PCs with the Windows operating system. As of the time of publication, Loudtalks is the only cross-operating system compatible push-to-talk app. In the future, you may also be able to use the app TalkBox, which is currently only available for Android and iPhone, on your BlackBerry.

Push-to-talk solutions like TiKL that offer texting, voice and other communications that may not require minutes or text messaging units on your plan. However, they do use data, whether that is network data from your cellular provider or data from a local wireless area connection or WLAN. If you do not have unlimited data, you should track your usage with TiKL or other Internet-enabled apps.
