Korean carrier says Galaxy S II ICS update coming 'tomorrow'; Samsung promises announcement 'soon'

AppId is over the quota

Samsung

After a series of false starts, it appears the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy S II (GT-i9100) owners may be about to land. Korean mobile network SK Telecom tweeted this morning that it'll begin rolling out the software update starting 10am KST tomorrow, March 13. (That's 1am GMT, or 9pm EST today, because time zones are crazy like that.) However, the tweet in question was quickly pulled down, and now SK Telecom is telling customers to check with the manufacturer for update information.

Samsung remains coy, however, saying on its official "SamsungTomorrow" Twitter account that Galaxy S II owners should make sure they're up to date through Kies, and promising an announcement "soon."

So, possibly great news for Korean Galaxy S II owners, and we're sure it won't be long before the update goes out to owners of the same hardware in Europe and other parts of Asia, too. But Galaxy S II devices in the United States will probably have a little longer to wait, due to the differences in phone hardware from carrier to carrier.

Samsung Galaxy S II now available on US Cellular, arrives in stores tomorrow

Galaxy S II

As we predicted last week, the Galaxy S II will arrive in US Cellular stores tomorrow, March 1, with online availability beginning today. The award winning smartphone will cost you $229.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with a two year contract (you'll get another $100 off if you're a new customer), and will surf on the carrier's 3G network rather than its soon-to-launch LTE wavelengths.

It's the same Galaxy S II you've grown to love, complete with a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.2 Ghz dual-core Exynos processor, and 16 GB internal storage. It's shipping with Gingerbread, and US Cellular hasn't made its Android 4.0-update plans clear as of yet, though we're hoping they'll keep on top of it.

Those of you who've been patiently waiting can grab yours today at the source link, or sit tight and head into a US Cellular retail location tomorrow.

Ice Cream Sandwich update for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is now live in Taiwan, The U.K. is on deck for tomorrow

Ice Cream Sandwich update for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is now live in Taiwan, The U.K. is on deck for tomorrow

Well you have to hand it to ASUS. They were able to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Transformer Prime in early January, and now owners of the Original Eee Pad Transformer in Taiwan are starting to receive the update as well. ASUS had this to say on their global Facebook page:
Many of our Eee Pad Transformer TF101 users have waited patiently for the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and we are delighted to announce that the first wave of FOTA updates for TF101 firmware v.9.2.1.11 started today in Taiwan. The update will FOTA in other regions soon after.
Although we will announce several new innovations at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, we take great pride in delivering on-going enhancements and support for products that are well into their life cycle.
ASUS originally promised a February / March time frame so things look to be on track as U.K. owners will see the update tomorrow. Moments ago, the U.K. Facebook page had this to say:
Those of you with your finger firmly on the tech news pulse will have already noticed that the ICS update for TF101 is rolling out in Taiwan today.
The OTA update will, barring security issues, be starting in the UK tomorrow so keep a steady eye on your devices and let us know when you get it and what you think!
Now the question is when we will see some ICS love in the U.S? I think it’s safe to assume we will see it stateside by next week or possibly as early as this week. ASUS is one of those companies that’s really catering to consumers and satisfaction. With companies like Motorola, Samsung, and HTC with no devices on Ice Cream Sandwich (except the U.S. XOOM), one has to wonder why ASUS is the only one that’s got it together.
