Verizon HTC Rezound price slashed to $49

We might be focusing on a couple of other HTC phones this week, but if you don't mind settling for a device that's a few months old you could take home another high-end HTC for next to nothing, starting today. The Verizon HTC Rezound, which launched last year at an eye-watering $299 on-contract, has just had its price slashed to $49 with a two-year plan.

The Rezound is notable for its 720p display, Beats Audio support and dual-core processor. As you'd expect from a leading Verizon phone, there's 4G LTE connectivity included too. We reviewed  the Rezound last year, and found it to be a worth competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Nexus. And with an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich imminent, the Rezound offers good value at this price point.

UK Motorola RAZR MAXX pre-order price emerges

AppId is over the quota AppId is over the quota

The Motorola RAZR MAXX is coming to the UK and Europe, without the battery-guzzling LTE radios of the Verizon version, but complete with the gianormous 3300mAh battery. Today British retailer Clove Technology give us the first indication of when we'll be able to get hold of the RAZR MAXX in the UK, and how much cash we'll be expected to part with.

Clove expects to stock the RAZR MAXX from mid-May, and lists a pre-order price of £359 (~$570) without VAT, or £430.80 including VAT. So it's clear that if you want the privilege of getting multiple days' usage on a single charge, you'll be expected to pay a significant premium over the the original GSM RAZR. That device currently sells for around £380 including VAT off-contract.

Pricing concerns aside, we're interested to see how long a plain old GSM/HSPA device on the MAXX's substantial battery pack. If anyone's interested in importing it into the US, the GSM RAZR MAXX's specs indicate it supports HSPA on 850 and 1900MHz, meaning it'll work on AT&T's 3G and "4G" network.

As Sony prepares to launch the first of its 2012 smartphones in the UK, one retailer has taken the initiative to offer the earlier Sony Ericsson flagship at a significantly reduced price. Right now British online store Dialaphone will sell you an Xperia Arc S for £199.89 off-contract -- a good deal less than the £350+ you'd have paid in late 2011. The offer applies to PAYG Arc S models locked to O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile or Orange, assuming you purchase a £10 top-up with either network at the same time.

As we discussed last year, the phone packs a pretty comprehensive feature set, including an excellent EXMOR R camera, in a slim, stylish chassis. It's also due an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the weeks ahead, which should give it a new lease of life. For more on the Arc S, check out our exhaustive review. Or if you're wondering what's next from Sony, you'll want to take a look over our initial review of the Xperia S.
